Module Introduction

This module introduction establishes the foundation for students to transition from argumentation theory to the structured practice of debate. It provides a clear roadmap for engaging with debate concepts and building essential skills.

  • Purpose: The module introduces students to formal debate, focusing on key components such as resolutions, affirmative and negative roles, and core concepts like burden of proof, clash, and solvency.

  • Learning Outcomes: Students will identify debate components, understand team responsibilities, and apply argumentation strategies to construct and refute arguments effectively.

  • Pedagogical Approach: The introduction connects theoretical concepts to practical applications, ensuring students build confidence as they progress through the module. It uses a structured, step-by-step approach to prepare them for active participation in debates.
